eharmony teamed up with popular money management app YNAB to better understand the impact finances have on dating and relationships. The data from eharmony’s survey of the general public and YNAB’s survey of their users revealed interesting differences in priorities, red flags, and more, between average daters and those who are particularly savvy when it comes to finances.

Let’s get started
When you’re dating someone, you’re also dating their finances. We looked at people’s financial red and green flags for finding a potential partner, and found that average daters and money-savvy individuals prioritize financial qualities differently.
Conversations surrounding finances used to be considered taboo, but our research has found that couples are prioritizing financial conversations and encouraging others to do the same.
From prenuptial agreements to retirement and everything in between, finances in relationships can prove to be some of the most important topics for couples to align on.
*Methodology: eharmony interviewed a representative sample of 1,227 respondents in the U.S. and Canada in September 2022. YNAB surveyed 1,517 of their users in the U.S. and Canada in October 2022.
