Brittany and Robert
After graduating college, I was recruited by an engineering company in Los Angeles, California so I decided to move 3,000 miles away from the small town in Upstate New York that I grew up in. I didn’t know anyone in California so I resorted to meeting people through work. I was never really into dating someone that I worked with, but I couldn’t figure out how to meet people outside of work, other than at the bars and clubs. I wasn’t having much luck trying to find a quality person with similar values to my own in this scene. After spending another birthday alone, I decided that enough is enough and I would try eHarmony. The commercials after all always made it seem too good to be true.
In May 2005 I signed up for eHarmony. I did a nationwide search since I really didn’t know where I wanted to end up. I screened through about 20 matches a day – it seemed like a second job. I was communicating with a few people and even went out on one date that didn’t work out. In late August of 2005 I was matched with Bob, who lived only 60 miles from me! I am an Engineer and he is an Architect, so historically, we’re not supposed to get along, yet we shared so many interests, it was almost like he was the male version of me. We communicated through eHarmony for a little over a month, and then finally we spoke on the phone. We talked for over 4 ½ hours! Just hearing his voice on the other end seemed almost magical. He instantly made me feel comfortable when I was so nervous to make the call. We spoke on the phone occasionally for the next few weeks until we were finally able to schedule in a date.
In mid-October 2005, we met at an Italian restaurant in the middle of where we both lived and enjoyed a nice dinner sharing stories about our childhood, where we’ve traveled, and our jobs. After dinner, we decided to go play some mini golf. Since I’m so competitive and I grew up in a town with more mini golf courses than there were people, you can only imagine what the score was. Bob was a good sport though and he took me out for dessert afterwards to celebrate my victory.
Ever since then, our competitive spirit has driven us to be the best of friends and our love of traveling has built memories that can never be forgotten. On August 17, 2008, on a planned trip up to Napa Valley, California, Bob proposed alongside Napa River at sunset. I never thought I could find my soul mate on the Internet! We are so grateful for eHarmony and their amazing ability to match people as compatible as we are!
