David and Sharon
Both of us had been single for quite some time; Sharon for 12 years following the death of her husband from cancer, and David for 4 years, including separation and divorce. Without knowing it, Sharon went onto eHarmony on David’s birthday (Sept 6) in 2005; and we were matched by eHarmony on October 31st, which was the exact same date that Sharon had first met (on a blind date) her former husband 39 years earlier. Thus began a long series of experiences which indicated how right we were for each other.
From David: I was first attracted by Sharon's photo on her eHarmony profile, and by the fact that she lived only 25 miles away; and then became even more attracted after reading her personality profile. Sharon's openness and honesty in the profile were clear; no pretenses, no cliché’s, no typical "trying-to-look-good" responses. I smiled when -- among her favorite things -- she said that she loved blue jeans and bare feet. That was refreshing. Her words about the most influential person in her life -- her daughter -- touched me, since it again demonstrated a lack of expected cliché’s, as well as her sensitivity and caring love. She went on to say that she likes to read books, which is very important to me. I was impressed when she said that someone had complimented her by saying: "You are like steel, wrapped in velvet". Her eHarmony photo seemed to nicely reflect that mental image.
From Sharon: How is it possible to feel so excited when you are with someone, yet, at the same time, so comfortable? That is how I felt the first time I met David, and those two seemingly opposite feelings still exist every time I am with him. I was, and still am, so impressed with his careful attention to detail, his gentle soft-spoken manner, his intelligence, his humility, his delightful sense of humor, his honesty, his sweet nature and, of course, his gorgeous white hair. I liked him immediately and that feeling grew stronger very quickly. I have had several relationships in the past twelve years, but never considered marriage with any of those gentlemen. I didn't really think I would ever get married again. But when David popped the question, after my mouth dropped open and my heart skipped several beats, I quickly responded, "YES, YES, A MILLION TIMES YES!" There was NO question in my mind that we are right for each other and when it's right, it's right! Thank you eHarmony - we love you!
