Nearly Gave Up

Rachael and Nick

Seattle, Washington

In September 2010 I  signed up for a four month term with eHarmony. By December  (the fourth month) I was exhausted and prepared to cancel my membership so I could take a break and re-evaluate my priorities and emotions. A few days before my contract expired a good looking man with ridiculous hair was "matched" to me and wanted to communicate with me. I figured why not try one last time?

He and I went through all the communication steps (which we did rather rapidly) and then he called me. I remember that he had a lovely voice - and I told him just as much. We decided to meet up for dinner a week later when he was back in town after the New Year.

A week later I walked into a wonderful French restaurant in downtown Seattle, and there he was; prompt (later he would tell me he was nervous and arrived 30 minutes early!), beautifully dressed, and pleasant. Our dinner turned into dinner, then drinks, then more drinks, and all of a sudden 5 hours had easily disappeared. Two weeks later we decided to make our relationship official and we have been happy and dedicated to each other every day since then.

On December 25th, 2012, Nick took me for a walk on the beach by our home at 10pm at night. We opened a bottle of champagne and after a few sips he was suddenly before me on one knee with a beautiful ring and an even more beautiful promise for our future.

Nick lived about an hour away from me. It is mind-boggeling to think about how many times our lives may have intersected and how every time we missed each other just by an inch. Thank you, eHarmony, for matching us. We probably couldn't have done it with out you! We will be getting married on September 19th, 2013, and I figured we ought to give credit where it's due!

To anyone on the site that is tired or having poor luck, don't give up! I found my match just as I was about to cancel my subscription. Dating can be exhausting and hard work, but it teaches you about yourself and about what you do and DO NOT want in a partner. Good luck!
