Wendy and Benjamin
Ben and I were matched on August 8, 2005. It wasn’t always smooth sailing. For example, our first phone call was a little awkward. But there was something that kept us interested. I think it was our ability to laugh easily at ourselves.
After the first phone call we then talked roughly 3-5 times a day, everyday. We both are the first to admit that we didn’t think expect eHarmony to work, but we are so happy that it did! After talking and falling in love over the phone we decided to meet. Ben flew from his home in California to my home in Idaho mid-October 2005. I still remember driving to the airport to pick him up. I felt queasy, excited, and I was in general disbelief that I was going to pick up a stranger that I was already in love with. Our first meeting was funny. We kind of just stared at each other for a bit. Then it was like we had known each other forever. In May of 2006 after much more phone conversations and visits to each other, I moved to California.
In November of 2007 Ben proposed during a triathlon he was competing in. On the running portion he ran by me and his family with a Fed Ex envelope. He gave me the envelope and kept running. Inside were pictures and notes from our eHarmony accounts and our first emails. By the time I was done reading, Ben was passing again with another Fed Ex envelope. Again he handed it to me and kept running (the run was 6 miles and looped by me 3 times). This envelope had more pictures and reminders of our time together so far. It also had a letter that told what I meant to him. By the time I was done reading this one, Ben was back and kneeled on his knee in front of me with a ring box opened. I was in shock. Other spectators were clapping and screaming for us and the other triathlon participants were clapping as they ran by. I of course said YES! Then Ben (still had 2 miles to go) ran off to finish the competition! I met him at the finish line of course!
Our wedding is just about a month away. I found myself wondering today…what if we hadn’t joined eHarmony? I am so happy and feel so loved that I can’t even remember what life was like before I met Ben. We laugh sometimes at the thought of our chance meeting. And we always exchange smiles when an eHarmony commercial comes on TV.
