So Close Yet So Far

Adam and Elizabeth

Lincoln, CA

It was a Thursday night in October 2007 - October 4th to be exact and I knew that this "somewhat blind" date was different.   Elizabeth and I grew up only about 45 minutes away from each other and even had family members who worked together, yet we never met one another.

Both of us had previous relationships that did not work out for one reason or another in the past. We both found ourselves single at the same time and have openly admitted that if we had met any sooner, we might not have even had a chance of working out!

Elizabeth had tried the "online dating" scene before, while I was new to it. I had considered it in the past, but was still pretty skeptical and traditional in my thinking.  After being single for about six months, a friend of mine said I should give eHarmony a try. I figured I was getting tired of being set up on one bad blind date after another, so reluctantly I filled out the online profile.

After a few months on eHarmony with no real luck, I surrendered to the fact that this dating service was a good idea in theory...it just was not going to be very realistic that I would find my "dream girl" on-line. But I kept the membership going, hopeful that while I was busy building my business and career, eHarmony was at least working on trying get me some dates! "Who knows, maybe I will hit the jackpot" is what I told myself.

Then one day I got an e-mail telling of the matches for that day. Ready to quickly go through and half-heartedly humor the matches that had a slight chance of working out and then deleting the matches with no immediate chemistry, I came upon Elizabeth from Sacramento, CA. Her picture had me wondering if this was for real, then her profile was too good to be true. I started questioning why an amazing girl like this would be on line.

Needless to say I was excited! After I initiated communication with her and we exchanged the initial contacts, I did not hear back from her for about a week. I did not know what to think. Being persistent by nature, I sent her another message to "say hi". She responded right back...I think she was playing hard to get before...and we set up a date later that week.

I have never met anyone who I immediately enjoyed and felt so completely comfortable with, and it didn't hurt that she was beautiful too! Now Elizabeth and I are complete believers that eHarmony and meeting someone online is the wave of the future. eHarmony basically eliminates the traditional first six months or so when you are trying to realize if the person you are dating has the core qualities you are looking for and are attracted to. That work has pretty much already been done for you.

I am humbled and sometimes in disbelief about how much I love Elizabeth and how compatible we are. I try not to give it too much thought, though. Now we just are enjoying what we have together! I am now marrying my best friend and looking forward to the amazing life that I know we will build together.

Update: We are officially the proud parents of our beautiful daughter Ava May, born July 1, 2010. We are so in love with our little girl!
