Alice and Samuel
With the encouragement of two dear friends, I decided to move to Miami, Florida to work for a resort. Quickly realizing that finding a life-partner was not as easy as once perceived along with my roommates unexpectedly getting pregnant, I (with the encouragement of the two dear friends again) decided to join E-Harmony. Reluctantly yet excited, I completed the in-depth profiling and started online dating for the first time in my life. Six days after I started, you matched me up with Pedro Samuel Flores.
Born in Chiclayo, Peru, Samuel moved to the United States at the age of 15. Following his studies, he decided to continue in his family business in credit counseling. After growing in his professional field, getting out of a long-term relationship and focusing on his friend and family, Samuel started to look to settle down. With the support of several close friends, he started online dating as well. Skeptical yet curious, he ventured to find his perfect match. Soon after, he was matched with me.
Samuel and I hit is off from the beginning through engaging conversations on email. The email communication continued for about a month until I kindly reminded him that he can ask me for my phone number (hint, hint). We then started talking on the phone for two to four hours a day for two weeks. After about a month and a half of building trust and sharing stories, Samuel asked me on a date to my first Peruvian restaurant. There we shared lots of laughter, conversation and ceviche making it difficult to say “good night”.
About one month later, my job sent me to Chicago to live for two months and work for the property up there. It was hard for me to face leaving him after such a short amount of time. After explaining the situation, Samuel and I committed to a long distance relationship. He visited twice that Summer and we had a blast! After enjoying time in Chicago complimented with the shared love of traveling, Samuel and I decided to vacation in his “homeland”, Peru following my stint in Chicago. Spending almost two weeks over there, we realized that we loved each other and wanted to create a life together!
A little over a year later, on March 16, 2012, Samuel and I exchanged vows at the beautiful Sundy House in Delray Beach. Built in 1902 for Delray Beach’s first mayor, Mr. John Sundy, this restored historic home is now registered with the National Register of Historic Places. It encompasses the Taru Gardens, an acre of lush, tropical foliage with the serene sounds of streams and waterfalls. Family and friends traveled from Tennessee to Peru, from Canada to California to celebrate in the festivities. It was a week long celebration where both her family and his family rented vacation homes to host various activities.
