eHarmony has been successfully matching couples for almost a decade using our scientifically proven 29 Dimensions ™ of Compatibility. These dimensions include things like values, personality traits, and attitudes. Our research has found that broad-based compatibility around these dimensions is key in forming happy and healthy long-term relationships.
When we talked to some of our success couples, they told us that our matching based on 29 Dimensions was fundamental in the success of their long-term relationships, but often it was something else that helped them to get the ball rolling when they first communicated or met in person.
In some cases, it was as small as sharing the same favorite movie or restaurant. For others, it was having traveled to the same far-off destination. Regardless of what it was, that commonality helped those couples break the ice.
With our new feature, Something to Talk About, we’re trying to capture the magic that so many of our couples told us about to help you get to know your special someone that much faster. Here’s how it works:
When you log into your eHarmony account, you’ll see a few questions pop up asking for more details about the top interests you told us about when you took the Relationship Questionnaire. These deeper level questions ask you things like “What is your favorite kind of food”, “What is your favorite TV show”, “What is your favorite travel destination”, and more.
Then next time you receive a match, if you share some common interests, you’ll see those interests highlighted in an area on your match’s profile titled “Something to Talk About”. From there, it’s up to both of you to make the connection.
Remember, you will still only receive matches based on eHarmony’s 29 Dimensions of Compatibility – we don’t send you matches based solely on these common interests. That said, when you do receive a match and you do share common interests, you’ll already have a great topic on which to strike up a conversation.
