The fact that Ben was from California but was working and going to graduate school in Syracuse where Heather grew up made it easy to initiate a face to face meeting. Conversation was not a problem as we talked about our families, friends, future goals, lessons we had learned from our past and much more. In fact we connected so well that we could not just end the evening after a long dinner, but instead we continued our conversation for a couple more hours. Before we knew it, it was well past midnight and we felt we had only touched the tip of the iceberg of what we could talk about. Future dates were similar, and although our first Valentine’s Day together was foiled when a huge snowstorm hit (it makes a great story though!), it became quite apparent that we just wanted to be spending as much time with each other as possible. The more time we spent together the more assured we became that we were meant to spend the rest of our lives together. We had heard before that “when you know, you know”. In May we flew to California so that Heather could meet Ben’s family. It was an incredible time for both us as we were able to do some sight seeing, just relax and spend quality time together, and of course have some great conversations both with Ben’s family as well as with each other. The next weekend, while visiting at the family farm where Heather’s mother grew up, Ben got on one knee and asked Heather to marry him. We are now happily engaged and are excited about our wedding plans!!!
