Michelle and I met approximately a month after beginning to message each other through eHarmony. Her photo of Estonia first drew my attention, because I imagine not that many folks have travelled there, and I recognized the scenery from my own trip there during college.
On our first date we went miniature golfing. It was a bit rainy, so there was very little competition for the course, and after finishing our first 18 holes we snuck in an extra game on the second course. We got drenched, but learned how easy it was to talk to each other in person, and were astonished at how well eHarmony's matching service worked when we got to the parking lot and realized we both drove the same kind of car.
We continued the date with dinner at Red Robin. Eating, laughing, joking, unable to take our attention off of each other the entire time.
After dinner we decided to hit the local library to check out each other's favorite books from childhood. They were closing soon, so after a short few minutes the lights dimmed and the announcement came over the speakers that the library would be closing. So we made plans to have a date the following weekend at a much larger library downtown.
That week, we managed to get together three more times before our scheduled date the following Saturday. She took me to a recycled arts supply store, and I took her dragon boating with me out on the river. I don't recall the third get together at the moment, but we both found it entertaining that our second "official" date was actually our fifth.
Apparently things were already going well for us.
For our library outing, I had planned a treasure hunt of sorts, where we'd have to find specific books, things out of place, and make sentences using words found on book titles. We each took a camera as a way to prove our discoveries, and had a ball sneaking about the library snapping photos.
After that second date, we had a short conversation about where we saw the relationship going, and she asked me if we were "dating", to which I replied in typical sarcastic fashion, "well we've been going out on dates all week...".
She wanted to know if I was seeing anyone else, and I told her that I'd been so busy seeing her I hadn't had time for anyone else. But after getting a bit more serious, I told her I didn't have my Letterman's Jacket from High School anymore, otherwise I'd totally let her wear it and we could tell everyone we were a couple. She was delighted, and so was I.
We didn't want to have a long engagement, because once we realized we were in it to stay, we wanted to be with each other all the time. Saying goodbye at the end of the evening was torture, but we endured for three months, and at the end of August, found ourselves happily married.
Then it was off to Disneyworld for a week of outrageous fun. I had never been to a theme park larger than a state fair, so it was an out of this world experience, and to be with my soul mate...it was an experience I'll always treasure. And with any luck, we'll repeat it one day.
In fact, we were planning on doing an anniversary trip to Disneyland, just a road trip from Oregon to California to see some siblings and have a short stay, but now we know we won't be going to Disneyland, because she won't be able to go on any of the rides.
That's right, we're expecting our first child by the year's end! We couldn't be happier to have found each other, and we're delighted to heartily recommend eHarmony every chance we get.
Thank you, eHarmony, for putting us in touch with each other. We both know we've found a lifelong partner, and we're thrilled to be sharing our happily ever after together.
