Location: Bay Shore, NY
Engaged: March 16th, 2009
Sean and I were matched on 07/27/2007. We made it to open communication just as both of our short memberships were about to expire. We exchanged email addresses and neither of us renewed, leaving just each other as our final hope for finding love on eHarmony.
We emailed back and forth for a while, and it wasn’t long before I started referring to him to friends and family as “Mr. Right.” I couldn’t believe how perfect he seemed. We had everything in common – values; family; taste in pets, movies and books. Finally, I asked him if he was ever going to ask me out on a real-life date! He ended up being the first and last person I was to ever go out with on eHarmony.
Our first date was 14 hours long! It started at 9 a.m. on 08/25/2007 when he picked me up to go paintballing, and ended at about 11 p.m., after we had had dinner, played video games, watched several movies together and anything else we could think of. Throughout the date we both kept saying to each other “You know, you can leave any time you want,” but neither of us wanted to go home.
We only had time for two more dates when I found out Sean had to go to North Carolina (we live in New York) for a month to fulfill his Marine Corps Reserves responsibilities. I had no idea if he’d call or even be interested in me when he got back. As it turns out, Sean called several times a week like clockwork. And after two weeks of being away, he decided to drive 28 hours from North Carolina to New York and back on the weekend, just to spend a single day with me.
When it was finally time for him to come home, I felt so close to him. I told him not to bother going to his own home, just to come straight to mine, even though I knew it would be around midnight before he arrived. He did just that, and that was the night he asked me to be his girlfriend.
We dated for about another month, when the Marine Corps decided to interrupt again. Only this time, he was called to go to Afghanistan for eight months starting in January. I cried when I found out and couldn’t even go to work that day. I told him, “nothing changes between us” and he agreed.
Just before Christmas that year, I heard the best news of my life. Some other Marine with his exact specialty actually wanted to go in his place. The USMC gave him the option of staying, and he accepted! I had spent so long coming to terms with the fact that he’d be gone; it seemed to take forever to adjust to the good news.
Recently, we went on a trip to Italy together. It had always been a lifelong dream of mine to go there, and Sean was the one who helped make it happen. On March 16, 2009, while floating on a gondola through Venice, I found that not only one but two of my lifelong dreams were coming true when Sean asked me to marry him! Our wedding date is set for Sept. 26, 2009, in South Fork Colorado, and in spite of losing my job just before our trip, I’m the happiest I’ve ever been in my life! THAT’S the true power of love.
