Rachael and Mark
y name is Rachael, and this is my eHarmony story. At the time I met Mark on eHarmony I had pretty much given up all hope of getting married. I was a single mother with a 4yr old daughter. I had been in a relationship with my previous boyfriend for 2.5yrs--we were engaged for about a year when he broke it off. I was absolutely devastated, and swore off relationships for a very long time!
Fourteen months after my relationship ended, I realized that I was still dreaming of marriage. I had absolutely no time to date because I worked full time, went to college full time, and was still a full mother. My mom and sister suggested I try eHarmony. I laughed it off for a few weeks thinking there was no way I could meet my future husband online. Then I realized that I really had no other prospects for meeting anyone, and decided to give it a half-hearted try.
I was really impressed by the detailed questionnaire I had to complete before being matched. When I started reviewing my matches I was surprised by how much I had in common with them. I had a ton of prospects, but Mark was the first match I was serious about getting to know. We quickly moved from answering preset questions to open communication. Mark and I learned more about each other in 2 months of open communication than I did in the first year of my “traditional” relationship. We even decided to wait several weeks before posting photos of ourselves so we could get to know each other without the distraction of what the other person looked like.
Mark and I met in person for the first time. I was living in Des Moines, IA and Mark in Columbia, MO. My sister lived in Kansas City, MO so we decided to meet there for our first ‘date’. We went to a 3D shark movie at Union Station and then to dinner at the Ameristar Casino. Our date was wonderful, scary, awkward…everything a first date should be. We felt like we knew each other because we had been communicating for so long, but we hadn’t actually met in person so the date was still very nerve-racking! Regardless of our awkward first date, I think we both knew already that we were made for each other. And that we would one day marry.
I introduced Mark to my daughter, Paige. They got along extremely well and we quickly formed a happy three-some. Mark and I had the same future dreams of marriage and family. We realized quickly that we didn’t want to wait long to make our dream come true.
We were married on August 10, 2007. Our lives have been pretty perfect ever since. Mark and I both work full time, and Paige is getting ready to start 1st grade this fall. Mark and I just learned that we are expecting our first baby together in April 2010 and couldn’t be happier….our first eHarmony baby!! And we have this wonderful website to thank.
Thank you eHarmony for giving two ordinary people from two different states the chance of a lifetime--the chance to fall in love and live happily ever after.
