More about me

The one thing I am passionate about...

I'm a teacher-artist who loves to see art events, grab an evening of conversation with friends, or just stay in and binge watch some Netflix. Adventurous eater.

I typically spend my leisure time

I adore grabbing a drink with friends, going out to dinner, and reading.

The most influential person in my life has been

Honestly, aside from whether I find that person attractive (I don't really have a type) I love being around someone who is funny. If the person I'm with keeps me laughing, then it's impossible to be bored.

The first thing people notice about me

I tend to do this sort of half smile thing where I don't show any teeth, so I guess it's maybe a smirk more than a smile. I do it a lot when I'm laughing, and I tend to hang out mostly with people who make me laugh.

The last book I read and enjoyed

I have recently been re-reading this series of fantasy/romance novels by Jacqueline Carey - the Kushiel series of fantasy novels. I needed something easy to read while grading a ton of high school assignments during this, my first year of teaching. I love that they manage to blend political intrigue with the sort of epic events I read about when reading Renaissance/early Modern poetry in graduate school. My absolute favorite author is K. J. Parker, and I taught his novel "The Hammer" in my college level engineering ethics course this past spring. In terms of structure, plot, and humor, I haven't found a finer novel.

The three things which I am most thankful for

  1. my career
  2. education
  3. family

The one thing I wish MORE people would notice about me

Honestly, I've been a teacher for so long I wish more people realized how much I love for the people around me to teach me new things. I know an incredible amount of stuff about some things, but shockingly little about other things. One of my best dates, believe it or not, was a couple years ago when the woman took me to a shoe store and explained how women's footwear worked, then walked me through another store to teach me about fashion. It was so far outside my area I had a blast learning stuff.
