More about me

The one thing I am passionate about...

That's a tough question. Professionally, I go to work every day to make a difference in people's lives--I get tied up in notions of justice and equity and am frequently frustrated with the "real world". At home, I like peace and quiet and "shiny" things and things that smell good. I am a total "FarScape" fan. And I believe that politics matter.

I typically spend my leisure time

I work 2 jobs and have no leisure time that is not involved in preparing for the next day. I am looking for a really good reason to slow down.

The most influential person in my life has been

Fun. And the ability to create fun in the midst of chaos. And the ability to laugh at yourself. Fun in all its incarnations, from bad jokes to jaunts into second-hand stores to skinny dipping in the ocean.

The first thing people notice about me

I am not sure, but I am sure that I am noticed--I have never been able to blend into a crowd (even when I am on time).

The last book I read and enjoyed

I am working my way through the John Sanford "Prey" novels. They are good 20" reads that I can pick up on sporadically, and I am trying to track his relationships. He is either very self-actualizing or a total cad. That is an intriguing question and that's why I like the novels. Sometimes I read real literature, but only on a dare.

The three things which I am most thankful for

  1. My children have found partners and are happy. I love hearing the "new" familly sharing their lives. I am happier because of that than any other thing in my life.
  2. My parents, aging now, still have each other. They are imperfect and wonderful and a challenge to me to live a life that I can respect.
  3. I am grateful, thankful, that I cannot be bored, for very long at least. I suspected, when I was young, that something wonderful would happen, sooner or later. Now I am sure that something wonderful will happen. Some say that I haven't set the bar very high ;)

The one thing I wish MORE people would notice about me

I am basically very shy.
