More about me

The one thing I am passionate about...

I'm most passionate about people and our ablity to postively affect one another's lives. We have so many opportunities to contribute to our communities and tackle social and economic injustices. I don't think we were put on this earth to take but to give. Giving brings us so many pleasures and learning experiences. I've found the expended energy to always be worth it . I am passionate about life - our bodies, our spirits, our ability to connect with one another and connect with powers outside ourselves. I am in awe of the unexplained mysteries of life...

I typically spend my leisure time

enjoy hiking, biking, dancing-- exploring SD and California's geography, music scene, art community, traveling. Trying out new recipes on friends (poor souls), spending quality time with my plants :)

The most influential person in my life has been

LOVE/COMPASSION - a partner who is accepting of all backgrounds and beliefs (even those that offend you) and a willingness to respect differences; giving just because and not for anything in return. HOPE/OPTIMISM- a partner who hasn't given in to cynicism (i.e. believes there's no point in attempting change because the problems are just too big). SPIRITUAL THIRST- someone who believes in a higher power and the importance of connecting with that power whether through nature, mediation, prayer, etc. For me its important to be able to believe in things I cannot see, touch or smell - in order to appreciate the nebulous mysteries of the world.

The first thing people notice about me

modest self-confidence

The last book I read and enjoyed

Sout of a Citizen: LIving with Conviction in a Cynical Time by Paul Rogat LoebI found it both inspirational and practical - it gives the high and lows of being a committed activist to any cause you choose to take on

The three things which I am most thankful for

  1. my family who love and support me despite our differences
  2. being taught about Christ and his life of love, acceptance and hope
  3. the never-ending blessings I receive every day in the way of friends, opportunities, and health

The one thing I wish MORE people would notice about me

although I can give the impression of being a bit on the serious side when you first meet me you'll soon find I have a very playful side - i like to kidd and laugh (especially at myself)

Friends Describe me as

Dependable, Easy-Going, Genuine, Optimistic

A little more about me

Low maintenance - won't cry if I've broken a nail cause I already bit them off; like camping (even the icky dirt in my tent part); don't need to be bought nice gifts - nice gestures do just fine; don't need to be the center of attention; I have a diversity of interests and love trying new stuff - I can be found helping with a concrete foundation pour one weekend and quilting the next. I can be pretty serious about things that are important to me but know when to just let go and be goofy. Dali Lama says laughter is one of his top 5.
