More about me

The one thing I am passionate about...

I guess I would have to say learning - I'm one of those individuals who probably would have just planted myself at school and continued to get more degrees and take more classes for a lifetime if finances and time had allowed. I do continue to take classes, though, and am an avid reader.

I typically spend my leisure time

I live in Austin, and there's never a lack of live music, plays, good indie/foreign films or interesting lectures/author talks, places to hike, etc., so I partake of any number of those things. I also love reading - just solitary time spent with a book - I'm an avid reader.

The most influential person in my life has been

I don't know anyone who DOES want someone dishonest, lacking in dedication, irresponsible, etc., so I'm not going to list the obvious --- I think that, for me, meeting someone who has all of the traits of an excellent father and who would BE an excellent father is about as good as it gets. I'm also very attracted to a keen intelligence and an accurate self-perception as well as the ability to read situations and individuals accurately. Just a general sense of "cluefulness."

The first thing people notice about me

My confidence and sense of humor, I'm told.

The last book I read and enjoyed

Am reading V.S. Naipaul's "The Enigma of Arrival" and it, for me, is like an oasis in a desert - it's been so long since I've read a work this good. He is superb at giving things (and himself) this unsparing examination and in analyzing and describing what is occurring beneath the surface.

The three things which I am most thankful for

  1. My family
  2. Books
  3. My health

The one thing I wish MORE people would notice about me

My vulnerability, I suppose.
