More about me

The one thing I am passionate about...

I'm most passionate about learning new things. I go on little enthusiasm binges - for awhile I may be reading everything I can get my hands on regarding the Armenian Genocide, only to switch to trying to teach myself calligraphy, or Spanish, or to taking a painting class; sometimes this tendency frustrates me, but I try to view it as my way of keeping life interesting.

I typically spend my leisure time

I'm a voracious reader. I love watching movies. I try to take advantage of the city somewhat regularly and go to museums, concerts, etc. I spend an awful lot of time talking to and hanging out with friends.

The most influential person in my life has been

I actually have my own list of things I really want to find in someone, but they don't necessarily have my categories on the "must haves", so here they are: I'm looking for someone who is kind, intelligent, has a well-developed sense of integrity, is affectionate, and willing to try new things.

The first thing people notice about me

A lot of people comment on my voice (generally they're good comments) when talking to me for the first time.

The last book I read and enjoyed

In the last year or so I've found two new authors that I really like, and I keep wondering how they managed to elude me for so long. Joan Didion and Murakami. I'm normally more of a story person than a language person, but I love the way Didion writes. And Murakami tells great stories.

The three things which I am most thankful for

  1. that through an accident of birth, I live politically, socially, and financially in a state that much of the world does not
  2. that I have an amazing supportive group of longtime friends
  3. that each morning I'm given a new day - being in NY in 2001 highlighted the need to stop taking my next day for granted

The one thing I wish MORE people would notice about me

Frequently people's inital impression of me is that I'm aloof. I'm actually just tounge-tied around most new people because I'm terrible at making small talk.

Friends Describe me as

Generous, Good listener, Intelligent, Warm

A little more about me

I like to travel, but don't often get to. I generally root for the underdog. I try not to be judgemental. I sometimes catch myself dancing to the music they play in the grocery store. I'm pretty politically opinionated. I own far too many books.
