The one thing I am passionate about...
My belief that we are the stewards of our increasingly fragile earth and the wildlife who depend upon our good graces for their survival. My belief that the true measure of a civilized society is how we provide for our most vulnerable. My belief in the separation of church and state - which is being systematically eroded, and that terrifies me, as it should all of us. My belief in Tikkun Olam: "healing the community" as a central tenet of living our lives - giving back, helping others, and making a difference. Friends and family. Much more.................
I typically spend my leisure time
My interests are extremely diverse: I love to read, bake, cook, socialize with good friends/colleagues, clean my car (!!), play with my cat, write poetry, go antiquing or to a great arts and crafts show, sit for hours on a beach under a starry sky, watch desert sunsets, have spirited discussions about politics and current events, snuggle in front of a roaring fire, play/listen to music, enjoy a leisurely coffee and dessert with friends, and more.
The most influential person in my life has been
Someone with a strong sense of ethics and an ability to communicate effectively. A great sense of humor helps a lot; a commitment to giving back to the community, and to preserving our fragile planet. Having been "humbled" by parenthood is a real plus - even as a stepparent. Willing to commit to a true partnership: fidelity, physical passion, emotional intimacy, love, and just letting go for fun. Please be aware: a conservative Republican is not a good match for me - I'm an unapologetic progressive liberal, though I wish others who don't share my political philosophy well in their searches.
The first thing people notice about me
Probably my sense of humor and my ability to communicate and reach out.
The last book I read and enjoyed
Broken Government by John Dean: a true indictment of the corrosiveness of modern politics by the hard right wing. Just finished Barbara Ehrenreich's This Land is Their Land - biting social commentary as only Ehrenreich can achieve. I read fiction and also current events, social commentary, etc. Tulane University professor Douglas Brinkley's devastating book about Hurricane Katrina, The Great Deluge, was amazing; Bill Bryson's A Walk in the Woods was marvelous and a true elegy to the fragility of our remaining wild places; Henry Beston's The Outermost House is a beautiful, lyrical ode to the ebb and flow of nature.
The three things which I am most thankful for
- My good health and deep emotional strength and intensity
- My special friends all over the country
- The love and support of my family
The one thing I wish MORE people would notice about me
I have no idea - I truly don't know how to answer this question.
Friends Describe me as
Articulate, Caring, Intelligent, Perceptive
A little more about me
I loved being a stepmom, and remain in touch with my wonderful adult stepchildren today. I'm intense, nuanced, highly articulate, but also sensitive, loyal, with a deep reservoir of emotions and and love. I believe that those who lack intensity lack the capacity for true passion - something to ponder. I would love to be in a committed relationship again - and am most fulfilled sharing my life with a special man. I have been described as 'tiny but mighty"; having a "larger than life personality", and "full of surprises" - I hope that all of this and more is true. I know my special partner is out there - let's find each other !
