The one thing I am passionate about...
I would say that I'm most passionate about being a good person, being sincere and living my life without regrets. I believe that every action and word we do and say affects another in some way, and I want to feel that I've contributed something good to this world and to people within it, no matter how many or how few.
I typically spend my leisure time
Socially, I love to listen to live music, preferably jazz or original acoustic, preferably in small clubs or venues where I feel as if I can really connect with the musicians. Privately, I enjoy photography and creative writing. I enjoy cuddling up and reading novels and poetry. I enjoy long drives when I'm not quite sure where I'll end up, but meet some interesting people and places along the way. I love to cook for friends, large groups and small, and spend long evenings with friends, having conversations that range from deeply meaningful subjects to the things that make us laugh until we can't breathe.
The most influential person in my life has been
I am looking for someone who is genuine and sincere, who knows who he is and who he is not, who understands that kindness is not a weakness but is, rather, the truest form of strength -- Someone who is loyal and honest and sees life as not only the pleasures that we receive from it but also all the beauty that we give back in return.
The first thing people notice about me
I've been told by others that they most notice my eyes and eye contact -- the way that I really listen and pay attention to what people say and mean. I think that people notice very quickly that they are speaking with someone who is warm and genuine and who doesn't have any ulterior motives or agendas.
The last book I read and enjoyed
The Life of Pi by Yann Martel. This I would recommend to anyone! I do not want to spoil this surreal plot for anyone who might read this, but it is about a young Indian boy who is on a search for meaning in his life, in terms of his spirituality and his place in the world. Through a tragic misfortune, he finds himself the last human survivor of a shipwreck and floating on a lifeboat with several dangerous wild animals -- it is a wonderful story of survival, companionship, the interconnectedness of our lives, and the importance of finding beauty in unlikely places.
The three things which I am most thankful for
- To have family and friends that love me unconditionally
- To be at an age when I know who I am completely, and like myself and what I stand for
- To have retained a sense of optimism, hope and beauty in this world.
The one thing I wish MORE people would notice about me
I mentioned earlier that people often notice quickly that I am very kind and warm with people and have an intense sense of optimism in my life. I don't think, however, that they necessarily know that my outlook is not a reflection of innocence or naivete, but was, rather, shaped by my own deeply held belief that no matter what I've seen or gone through, my priorities remain with wanting my life to contribute something good and kind to this world.
