More about me

The one thing I am passionate about...

People. I am really passionate about my family, friends, and work. I have 5 siblings and we have a great time together. I love working on a college campus, with the students, in the kind of environment that I do. It's challenging, energizing, and never a dull moment! I am very passionate about helping others follow their passions. I care about how people understand and interact with people who are different than themselves. I love to travel and meet people, and someday I hope to make it to every continent. So far, I've made it to 3. (The picture is with my best friend who lives in Italy now.)

I typically spend my leisure time

I hang out a lot with my dog! Hiking, doing the dog park thing etc. Also going out with friends - to restaurants, wine-tasting, or just hanging at someone's house and playing some games. Running, skiing, hiking, and sometimes even horseback riding are my favorite outdoor things. I love movies, especially film festivals, comedy clubs, and plays.

The most influential person in my life has been

The most important qualities are a tie between communication, a sense of humor, and openness. I think being able to have honest, fair and calm discussions, being able to laugh, and to consider new ideas are absolute necessities to a good relationship.

The first thing people notice about me

My sense of humor.

The last book I read and enjoyed

I tend to read a lot of things at once - (job hazard!) Currently flipping between The World is Flat, and Presence. But every now and then I read one cover to cover in a few days- recently Harry Potter and The Life of Pi -- an incredible story of the possibility of the human spirit.

The three things which I am most thankful for

  1. My family & friends
  2. My health
  3. My work

The one thing I wish MORE people would notice about me

At work... I do let my hair down (the pic posted is the work shot).

A little more about me

I'm a super secret double-agent? (BTW, Sydney is my nickname b/c I lived in Australia. My actual first name is Jenny.) I guess I get described as "not your typical college professor" -- I am complex and also silly. Politically I'm liberal. I enjoy having debates -- not arguments -- and I don't think people have to put down others to have a conversation on different sides, but I do believe that people need to be thinkers and questioners. This is why I'm not a big fan of institutionalized spirituality. And of course if we all watched more Bugs Bunny, the world would probably be a happier place all around.
