The one thing I am passionate about...
I'm a drummer and avid music fan, so I'm passionate about all things related to music. I collect and restore vintage drums.I'm a bit of a tinkerer, and like to fix and restore things. Besides drums, I also restore pinball machines. I have several and a skeeball machine in my house. I really enjoy having people over for a backyard bbq and pinball.I love to tell funny stories, and I have plenty of them. I'm never without a good novel. I probably read around 25 novels a year. I try not to get bogged down in philosophy -- I just enjoy a good story.I like to know things, so I listen to NPR a lot. My brain is full of useless trivia.
I typically spend my leisure time
Currently, most of my spare time during the week is spent exercising and stretching. I recently went back to school for engineering. Although I came out of school with a good job, I also came out with a few extra pounds and a sore back from hunching over to study. I'm trying to rememdy that now. I'm down 12 pounds so far.On weekends I spend time with friends, either at a laid-back pub or when someone is hosting. I've really been enjoying getting reacquainted with the Austin music scene. Now that I'm out of school, I have time for drums again, and I'm working with a guy who is known from the Austin '80s alternative scene. And I fix stuff.
The most influential person in my life has been
Honesty and directness, but with kindness.
The first thing people notice about me
I'm a storyteller. I have an incredibly long memory, especially for peculiar things, and I often tell embarrassing stories about myself. For better or worse, there are a lot of them, and they are funny as hell. People who haven't heard my stories before tend to react by howling with laughter while saying "Too much information."
The last book I read and enjoyed
Hmm, rarely will I start a book without finishing it. Sometimes that's a good thing, sometimes not. I decided to read Atlas Shrugged by Ayn Rand and I'm so sick of it that I can't even remember what it's like to a read a well written story.I really liked the Stieg Larsson Millenium Trilogy. I also enjoy Jasper Fforde, Christopher Moore, and Jim Thompson. I keep my reading light, fun and weird.
The three things which I am most thankful for
- I am unique and have an unusual combination of skills, interests and hobbies
- I have a great group of smart, funny, creative and good-natured friends
- Chances are pretty slim that I'll ever go hungry
The one thing I wish MORE people would notice about me
Well, here are a few things.... I often say the right thing, but sometimes in the wrong way. On a day-to-day basis, I'm not nearly as outgoing or outrageous as my storyteller personality would indicate. That personality is fueled by a little social anxiety, but most strangers would never know that from talking to me. If you are normal, you'll think I'm weird, but if you are weird, you'll think I'm normal. I get a kick out of absurdity, and I see a lot of it in the world.
