More about me

The one thing I am passionate about...

I am most passionate about social justice issues. I am an activist, so a lot of my time in and outside of work is dedicated to working towards social justice and human equity, particularly on issues involving marginalized peoples. My personal passion is music. I could spend the ENTIRE day listening to, or writing music, and I'm sure if I could play an instrument, I could spend the entire day doing that as well! :)

I typically spend my leisure time

I love to do anything associated with music; dancing, concerts, speakeasies, etc. I like to attend cultural events. I like movies, particularly foreign films. I'm orginally from Southern Cali, so in the GOOD weather I used to get out alot. But, now as I get used to the cold in DC, I've turned into a regular homebody; which translate into sitting in front of the computer, a book or a film!

The most influential person in my life has been

Honesty. I feel that tensions arise in most relationships, romantic or not, when people are not being honest with themselves, and the other person(s) involved. I am the type of person that needs honesty in a relationship, whether it is painful, or causes people to change, I think it is necessary.

The last book I read and enjoyed

The last book I read was 'Breaking Bread" Insurgent Black Intellectual Life by bell hooks and Cornel West. It is a discussion between the two authors about issues that effect the Black community. I am a huge fan of Cornel West's work, although I sometimes struggle with his ideas on gender. So, it was good to read bell hooks challenging him on some of his ideas.

The three things which I am most thankful for

  1. My relationships
  2. My life experience, good and bad
  3. Opportunities
