More about me

The one thing I am passionate about...

I get really passionate about politics. I don't know how I stumbled upon a fondness for politics -- my parents and brother could care less -- but I keep up with current events and am always engaged in a conversation about the latest front-page story dealing with taxes, abortion, civil rights, etc. I lean conservative/libertarian in my political views.

I typically spend my leisure time

I bought a house two weeks ago...what leisure time?

The most influential person in my life has been

I would have to say transparency/honesty - a person who says, "This is who I am. Take it or leave it, but this is who I am." To me, that's a sign of confidence and integrity.

The first thing people notice about me

That I smile a lot and try to make people feel comfortable/at ease.

The last book I read and enjoyed

I recently re-read Band of Brothers, the story of the 101st Airborne in WWII, by Stephen Ambrose. I rented the HBO movie on DVD after reading the book the first time, and after watching the movie I re-read the book. I'm reading another Ambrose book, Personal Reflections of an Historian, right now. (There is no movie, so I won't have to re-read this one).

The three things which I am most thankful for

  1. I'm thankful for my parents, especially as I watch them age and as I get older and understand better what they were trying to teach me
  2. I'm thankful for life -- the ability to wake up every morning and have breath in my lungs
  3. For genuine, down-to-earth friends

The one thing I wish MORE people would notice about me

People get the impression that I'm happy all the time and a comic (see No. 7 above). People expect me to be like that all the time, and I'm not, and they're surprised when they find me worried, angry, or nervous.
