More about me

The one thing I am passionate about...

I teach in city schools. I am passionate about giving kids hope and teaching them to believe in themselves. I work hard to spark interests within them in science or reading or ANYTHING outside of their television-saturated world. And then I fan that little flame of interest just as much as I can, for the year that I have with them, in the hope that it won't go out when they go home for summer vacation. When September rolls around, I do it again. If I'm not teaching, I don't feel like myself. That's my passion.

I typically spend my leisure time

I have three Siberian Huskies that I love training and playing with. I also garden, read and listen to music. Sometimes I journal or write little pieces of story or poetry. Some evenings, I watch television.

The most influential person in my life has been

The ability to enjoy simple everyday life without restlessly casting about for "entertainment."

The first thing people notice about me

They usually comment on my intelligence or my vocabulary.

The last book I read and enjoyed

I enjoyed The Last Detective, by Robert Crais. I especially enjoy mysteries, because they absorb my attention and give me a rest from daily stresses. This one was especially well-written. It was fast-paced, but it still included some excellent character development. Crais has some recurring characters I'd read about in his earlier novels. In this book, he provided insight into their histories and motivations. I came away from the story really caring about the characters and eager to see what will happen to them in the next book.

The three things which I am most thankful for

  1. My family and the relationship I have with them.
  2. My teaching career and a good teaching job within a supportive school
  3. My health

The one thing I wish MORE people would notice about me

The fact that I'm quiet when I first meet someone is not a sign of disinterest. I'm just not good at small talk! I'd love to have a friendly conversation, but I need help getting started.

A little more about me

I have a decent sense of humor, but it takes awhile to come out.
