More about me

The one thing I am passionate about...

Intellectual depth, social and environmental justice.

I typically spend my leisure time

Working on old cars, taking my two crazy beagles for a walk, engaging in motorsport, keeping fit, snowboarding (new), reading (non-fiction, science, maths, scifi..), goofing off.

The most influential person in my life has been

Curiosity --> A sense of adventure, an appreciation of life's mysteries.

The first thing people notice about me

I'm easy to talk to. I'm a good listener, am reasonably well educated, generally avoid poor grammer (or grammar ??) and find myself irresistably funny in a self-deprecating kind of way (!). Most people think I'm slightly eccentric, which is OK by me.

The last book I read and enjoyed

Collapse by Jared Diamond. As the blurb goes, it's about how societies choose to fail or succeed. A cautionary thesis for modern times. One of the best I read was Godel Escher Bach. Hard to describe.. Uses the construct of formal systems to talk about consistency and completeness and ultimately about self.

The three things which I am most thankful for

  1. My health - touch wood (knocking on my head)
  2. The scientific method, without which we'd most certainly not be able to dig ourselves out of the hole we find ourselves in.
  3. Our ability to appreciate our wonderful world and its place in the universe, which should surely guide us in preserving it for future generations.

The one thing I wish MORE people would notice about me

I'm fairly non-judgmental and generally quite tolerant, so don't hold back on engaging me in a debate - I'll probably lose just because I like you..and..yeah, also because I'm not a good debater.

Friends Describe me as

Articulate, Generous, Hard Working, Intelligent

A little more about me

I'm a recovering cricket-a-holic.. I can support two contradictory ideas at once - three in a pinch..
