The one thing I am passionate about...
I'm passionate about reading, conversation, painting (doing & viewing), politics & environment, and about growing, personally, by which I don't mean reading the latest self-help book (though there's nothing wrong with that) but challenging myself to be the person I want to be and being aware and awake. I love hearing what is moving and changing my friends. I want to know what they're thinking and reading and how the world is influencing them. I'm stirred by the mystery of the natural world.
I typically spend my leisure time
Conversing, dining w/ friends or cooking for them, long walks (w/dog), working out, theater, films, music, hanging out. i crave laughter. can't get enough. Leisurely road trips, poking around, being surprised by the world. Gardening, reading, travel. I'm a gregarious introvert. have finely tuned social skills, enjoy socializing and am deeply interested in others, their experiences, their stories and their internal lives. I have many deep, treasured friendships. Yet, I need a good deal of time to myself to process it all and re-fuel my interest and energy. To that end, I meditate, write and paint. Or just bumble around, talking to myse
The most influential person in my life has been
the guy with a wry wit, a spirit of inquiry, the willingness to negotiate to get what he wants, and to be occasionally influenced by me (as I am by him), a man who still has hope, who thinks other humans are genuinely intriguing, who thinks I'm hysterically funny, and who thinks many answers to life are found in books.
The first thing people notice about me
I'm interested ... in them, in the world, in what's going on around me.
The last book I read and enjoyed
Suite Franaise, (novel of France during the German occupation of France); Breakthrough (new directions for the enviro. movement), Dark Star Safari (Paul Theroux travels overland in Africa); the New Yorker and NY Times regularly, economic, finance & politics online.
The three things which I am most thankful for
- the love of close friends and family
- getting outdoors in the natural world every day
- good health, a clear, sharp mind & the ability to work independently
The one thing I wish MORE people would notice about me
i can occasionally be a bit reserved upon first meeting, taking a while to warm up.
Friends Describe me as
Articulate, Creative, Intelligent, Warm
A little more about me
I've closely observed marriages I respect and notice the partners share a willingness to be influenced by each other & to negotiate for what they want. they treat the relationship itself as a precious thing. for them, love is an active verb. I think life's not complete without the chance to experience such a love.
