More about me

The one thing I am passionate about...

I am most passionate about beauty and justice.

I typically spend my leisure time

Reading and creating. Painting weird little angels and gluing stuff to them. Thrift store shopping. Watching Jon Stewart reruns. Gardening. Researching some latest obsession; this week it's finding the perfect luggage tags for a coworker, last week it was black foliaged plants. Playing with tarot cards.

The most influential person in my life has been

Depth. Of character, of spirit, of thought. Look alive, soldier! I can't bear to look into the eyes of someone who never bothered to think. Plumb the depths!

The first thing people notice about me

Hm, probably I'm being loud and sarcastic. I tend to do that when I first meet people.

The last book I read and enjoyed

The Golden Compass. It was lovely and imaginative. I love stories that run parallel to history and encompass everything. I also reread my Auden collected poems. Still can't get over these words to live by: "Between the chances, choose the odd; Read the New Yorker, trust in God; And take short views." I want that on my tombstone.

The three things which I am most thankful for

  1. my children and my family
  2. my circle of friends
  3. beauty (not mine, oh brother! the beauty of the world)

The one thing I wish MORE people would notice about me

I wish people could tell that I really am trying to see the best in them, that it's my nature to like them if they'd let me. I still believe people are good.

A little more about me

Despite all evidence to the contrary, I still believe in love, in epic romance, in kindred spirits, in angels and faeries, in Lancelot, in pure art, in justice, in babies, in holiness, in untroubled sleep, in a clean kitchen, in hostas growing slugfree in Seattle, in eternity, in representative democracy, in cheeseburgers that gladden the heart, and in tolerant, peaceful religion.
