The one thing I am passionate about...
I think I am most passionate about learning how to be God's hands and feet in the world. I love being around students (young and old!), and teaching and learning from them. I love Christian theology and ethics, especially on progressive social, historical, and cultural issues. I also love philosophy, because I think it helps us think carefully about how we live. I am also passionate about music, and I am an avid musician (electric guitar, piano, and drums these days). Last, but not least, I love being around people, and helping them be the people they've always supposed to become.
I typically spend my leisure time
For leisure, I'm usually doing various Christian ministerial duties (I know I'm just crazy ... ), spending time with friends, playing music, or writing.
The most influential person in my life has been
If I connect emotionally with a woman, that is a HUGE plus. Also, I think I need a woman with a little edge or quirkiness in them; for some reason, I find women who don't quite fit the stereotypical mold very appealing.
The first thing people notice about me
I think most people notice is that I'm pretty passionate about what I do ,whether it's music, theology, serving, preaching, teaching, learning, people ...
The last book I read and enjoyed
I recently read Andrew Marin's "Love is an Orientation: Elevating the Conversation with the Gay Community." It was a book that focused on Christians creating bridges to the LGBTQ community. I really liked the book because it bucks the trend of most every other Christian book on this subject. Most Christian books on gays and lesbians basically theologize that homosexuality is wrong (or right), which basically polarizes Christians and the LGBTQ community on one side or the other, instead of encouraging its readers to engage and love other people. In a time where we don't practice what we preach, this book tells us to LIVE the Great Commandment.
The three things which I am most thankful for
- God, who gives coherence and vision in my life
- My friends and family, who always stick with me through thick and thin
- The opportunity to change our world
The one thing I wish MORE people would notice about me
As someone in Christian ministry, I'm not as close-minded as some people might stereotype me to be. Especially when you're a leader, people make certain assumptions about who you are, and at the end of the day, I want the same thing everyone wants: love.

A little more about me
I'm the guy that will never fit neatly into any category. I am a fervent bible believing Christian, but I'm pretty progressive and liberal at times. I'm not the party animal at all, but I will hang with almost anyone anywhere. I'm pretty brainy and love deep intellectual discussion, but I greatly prize someone who I can relate to emotionally, whom I can be really romantic with.
