More about me

The one thing I am passionate about...

Personal growth through friendship, intimacy, literature, music, and nature. I am very passionate about jazz and history.

I typically spend my leisure time

Listening to jazz at home or in a live setting, corresponding by cassette with jazz friends overseas, reading, conversation (I find it easy to talk with anyone, anytime), walking everyday with Ella my miniature poodle, discovering new culinary experiences, enjoying performing arts, travel, and nature.

The most influential person in my life has been

Confidence. An interest in jazz would be "icing on the cake".

The first thing people notice about me

Ease that I fit into most social situations.

The last book I read and enjoyed

The answer to this question changes weekly. I read a variety of books with a particular passion for 17th century English history and the writings and biographies of Thoreau, Hemingway and Dylan Thomas. I also indulge in American history, native Americana, nature, jazz history, biography, beat poetry, Haiku, Robert Service, northwest history, Thomas Friedman, and others. Recently read a book of letters discussing Thoreau and Concord and "The Tyrannicide Brief" about the prosecution of Charles I, an excellent book. Just finished "The Assault on Reason" by Al Gore and "The Road" by Cormac McCarthy. I recommend both.

The three things which I am most thankful for

  1. Physical, emotional, and mental health.
  2. Financial security.
  3. Retirement.

The one thing I wish MORE people would notice about me

I would rather think for myself than follow the crowd.

Friends Describe me as

A little more about me

I enjoy all the finer things of life and sincerely believe "it's the journey". Now that I am retired, I refuse to compromise on the important aspects of daily life. I will continue to protect my health, read whenever I can, socialize with anyone I choose, and remain open to almost any new adventure. I do not embrace consumerism and have low regard for television and mass media. I abhor bigots and laziness. I accept that there is no perfect relationship and that friendship with others is important to each of us. Of all the trials that our common humanity has to encounter, being one's self requires the most courage and determination.
