The one thing I am passionate about...
First and foremost, I'm someone who loves art. Not the art in elitist galleries in Chelsea, but the art in everyday. Old men walking down the street singing to themselves. Leaves falling from trees. Being lit up by the city at night. The kind of art that is living. It is because of my love for the kind of art that is living that I became a musician. I'm very passionate about making music, and also about teaching music.I'm also a passionate city-dweller. I love, love, love New York.
I typically spend my leisure time
I watch a lot of TV, to be honest. But I don't like to, I just don't really have anything else to do. I love visiting museums, going to the movies, going out to dinner, but only when I have someone to go with. I have gotten more socially active in the past months. I have several wonderful friends spread out all over the city (from Brooklyn to the Bronx, and I live in Astoria, so it's a trek!)
The most influential person in my life has been
It would be amazing to find someone who loves all the things I love. What do I love? Hmm. I love the movie "Harvey", I love anything written by Italo Calvino, I love wandering around the city and discovering new little places I've never seen before, I love laughing, I love affection and hugs (and other stuff too), I love "Amelie" and aspire to be like her - she's my hero, I love Freaks and Geeks, I love Texas (but not a Republican), I love my family and friends.
The first thing people notice about me
Most people would tell you that I'm kind. I guess another thing that most people notice right off the bat is that I'm funny and have a good (albeit dirty sometimes) sense of humor. Also, it's not hard to tell that I'm intelligent.
The last book I read and enjoyed
I love Mary Karr's memoir "The Liar's Club." It actually made me proud to be from Texas. Mary Karr made me realize that underneath my soft exterior that I am actually a hardened badass - but in a good way.
The three things which I am most thankful for
- I am thankful for my family
- I am thankful to live in amazing New York City
- I am thankful for my talents as a musician
The one thing I wish MORE people would notice about me
I'm much more shy than you think I am. Because I'm funny and have a good sense of humor, you can't see it so easily. My sense of humor is actually a defense mechanism, I think, because I used to weigh a lot more than I do now. I'm getting used to my new size, and oddly enough, I'm more shy than I was before.
Friends Describe me as
Creative, Intelligent, Kind, Warm
A little more about me
Things you should know about me upfront - I've spent most of my life as the fat girl. I recently lost 140 pounds (and still going, believe it or not) so won't be the fat girl much longer on the outside, but always will be on the inside...which is okay with me. I think it's actually made me a very good judge of character. If you want to date a skinny, athletic girl, I'm probably not for you. I am still very curvy, voluptuous, whatever you want to call it. I am athletic in that I walk several miles every day, but I don't really like to go hiking, scuba-ing, that type of stuff. I'm city-athletic, if that makes sense.
