More about me

The one thing I am passionate about...

I'm extremely passionate about dancing, specifically Jazz dances such as Lindy Hop, Blues, and Balboa. I started dancing five years ago, and it has made a huge change in how I live my life. Not only has it made me a happier and more balanced person, but it has given me many great friendships, let me travel all over the country, and given me a sense of accomplishment that was missing outside my professional life. I've had to struggle with it from time to time, but on the whole I'm much better for having found it. It's definitely turned me into a gentleman.

I typically spend my leisure time

When I'm not dancing I read books, ride my bicycle, go camping, and help out with independent theater. I've occasionally been caught attempting to play the clarinet, but mostly it just sounds like an elephant being strangled.

The most influential person in my life has been

Curiosity is key. I love discovering new things about the world we live in, and my ideal mate would share this curiosity, and share her discoveries with me as I would share mine with her.

The first thing people notice about me

People notice my voice for a very brief moment, then they notice my brain and forget all about my voice.

The last book I read and enjoyed

The Cousins' Wars, by Kevin Phillips. It's a history of the English Civil War, the American Civil War, and the American Civil War. Rather than the usual focus on the military side of things, he focuses entirely on the political, sociological, and the religious reasons for the wars. It's even more interesting in that I can see a continuation of the struggle in today's political environment, and how the historical research behind the book ended up shaping the author's later work.

The three things which I am most thankful for

  1. Society - Ours is not perfect, but it allows me the time to grow as an individual.
  2. Books - I have a constant craving for knowledge, and they sate that hunger, if only for a little while.
  3. Jazz - so many varied forms, so many different emotions expressed, so many different dances to do!

The one thing I wish MORE people would notice about me

I am both artistic and scientific, passionate and logical, impulsive and analytical. Generally when people meet me for the first time, they see one part of this, and miss the other - in actuality they operate in balance, but generally one side or the other tends to be dominant at one time.

Friends Describe me as

Intelligent, Passionate, Perceptive, Respectful

A little more about me

What matters most in life to me is not having the most money, fame, or success, but having a joyful life. Without joy, the rest is useless. I've been trying to increase the amount of joy in the world by volunteering within the dance community, doing my best to ensure that everybody who wants can experience the joy of dancing regardless of their skill or ability.
