More about me

The one thing I am passionate about...

Learning and making. Learning might be reading, traveling, or genuinely listening to someone. Making could be playing music, building something, cooking a great meal, or investing in a friendship. It's ultimately about seeking to understand the world better and then doing something with that understanding.

I typically spend my leisure time

Playing and listening to music, reading, and hanging out with friends. I like long walks and I run regularly (which is important since I'm training for my second marathon). I love the outdoors but I also love the city.

The most influential person in my life has been

At the risk of sounding like I'm giving a broad catch-all answer... chemistry.

The first thing people notice about me

my vestigial tail

The last book I read and enjoyed

A Landing on the Sun by Michael Frayn. This book works on many levels and defies easy categorization. It starts with the subject matter of an espionage novel and morphs into a satire of government and society that's also a touching examination of the nature of happiness. The form of the story is very creative too: even though the action of the book is basically an English bureacrat (the narrator) listening to dictation tape archives (from a now-defunct secret government unit), the story projected by his vivid imagination is human and full of life.

The three things which I am most thankful for

  1. Friends and family
  2. The adventure my life has been so far
  3. The beauty and mystery of the world around us (sounds cheesy, but I'm serious)

The one thing I wish MORE people would notice about me

my vestigial wings
