The one thing I am passionate about...
Evolution. I do not like to classify it as a passion as the word passion can be used to denote lack of reason, but I firmly believe that all life has evolved over millions of year in a chemical process combined through an energy catalyst. If I am truely passionate about anything, it is the wonder of nature, the geological processes that have formed the earth, and the beauty of the life forms that inhabit the earth.
I typically spend my leisure time
Writing fiction, reading, travelling, exercising, sunning, playing various sports. In the evening I spend a couple of hours cooking dinner, will watch nature programs on TV, watch a video and/or read. But I would rather go to a good restaurant (hard to find in Colorado Springs)rather than cook. I have most enjoyed sailing, whale and dolphin watching (also hard to do in Colorado.)
The most influential person in my life has been
Compatability. This includes the strength of character to put up with me, the sociability to get along with other people and the love of life to want to do a variety of things in life; travel, sit at home, play outdoors, entertain. Not be afraid to guide me into your own activities.
The first thing people notice about me
My laugh. It seems to be identifiable enough that people I have not seen since college days recognize me by it even when I am not in their sight. The fact that I wear shorts most of the year.
The last book I read and enjoyed
Nonfiction: The Female Brain. A neuropsychologist's explanation of the evolution and functions of the areas of the female brain and how they control emotions and activities at various stages of life. I enjoyed learning what makes a woman tick. Must Read for both women and men. Also, Cobra II, a retired general's accounting of how we got into war in Iraq. I liked it because it tended to verify my own opinions. Fiction: Jeff Shaara's To The Last Man. A fictionalized story of the events and principal players before and into World War I. I enjoyed it because I am most interested in that period in history.
The three things which I am most thankful for
- My life has been fulfilling. There is still room for more.
- I enjoyed 30 years of happiness with my now deceased wife. I am now moving on.
- I have enjoyed most of my life with good health and have had the ability to do as I desired. Have never lost sexual ability.
The one thing I wish MORE people would notice about me
Nothing. I am gregarious and pretty much an open book. Ask and I'll tell. I don't take myself seriously, so enjoy friendly ragging. I also like friends who feel comfortable enough with themselves (and with me) to walk in the house uninvited, calling out for me if I don't show up to greet them.
Friends Describe me as
Affectionate, Funny, Outgoing, Physically Fit
A little more about me
I enjoy traveling around North America by motorhome, making a leisurely trip without following time schedulesl My interests are geologicl formations and fauna and flora of areas I visit. I am not above relaxing in one area for a few daysk lounging at a beach or hiking around a rain forest, a mountainside or seashore. I distain cities and tourist attractions that are so only because of manmade lures. I have traveled Western Europe and would like to do so again, but prefer not to join a tour except to familiarize myself with the area before making visits to specific places on my own time schedule. I abhor cruise ships but enjoy sailing.
