The one thing I am passionate about...
I believe that in the short time we have in this life that our greatest opportunities for happiness lie in our compassion toward the world. I strongly believe in Kindness, as in the relief of suffering and creation of Joy. I believe this kindness should start with kindness to oneself, family, and immediate community, and should extend as far as possible without overburdening oneself beyond the value of the good to be accomplished.
I typically spend my leisure time
Walking, contemplating the values of life with my friends, going to live theater, creative cooking, going to museums, reading to my children, reading by myself, drinking tea/coffe/beer at a pleasant locale and occasionally the "Dreaded XBOX"
The most influential person in my life has been
I believe that most importaant quality in a person is compassion. I have spoken to many people on their deathbeds, and have asked them, "What made your life worth living for?" I have been given three general answers: 1)There are those that live their lives primarily for themselves, and these are the people that respond that they are angry that all they have lived and worked for is being taken away; 2)There are those who rather than answer my question, respond that they regret that they focussed to much on the meaningless (money, fame) at the cost of not caring for others; and 3)The most happy are those that have chosen to care for others.
The first thing people notice about me
Although I believe my concern for humanity is most notable to those that know me; unfortunately, it is my intellect, educational and career success that people first notice about me.
The last book I read and enjoyed
TOSS UP: 1)The Count of Monte Cristo, which for the unfamiliar is about the cost of revenge to the vengeful. The beauty of this book is in its profound understanding of the need to let go of anger in life, as anger hurts all, including the person who fills themselves with it. 2) Don Quixote. Again, for the unfamiliar, about a man who can not cope with the sorrow of the sufferings of the world and leaves his reality to enter world of delusion to fight as a "Knight Errant" against the cruelties of existence. Its beauty is the reminder of the importance of rightfulness in living. Chivalry is not dead, just needs to be awakened.
The three things which I am most thankful for
The one thing I wish MORE people would notice about me
As I previously stated, it is my concern for humanity or compassion that I wish people would open themselves to, but this takes time, as it would in anyone, to know the more profound aspects of a person.
