More about me

The one thing I am passionate about...

About good literature. I put this rather dutifully, since it's my job.

I typically spend my leisure time

I like eating good food, whether I eat out or cook it myself; drinking good wine, or sometimes beer; and conversing with friends. I enjoy reading, watching movies, and visiting museums and galleries. I run a lot, ski, and sometimes hike.

The most influential person in my life has been

I'd like you to be interested in all kinds of things, and just a little offbeat.

The first thing people notice about me

My accent, since I'm not American. The moment I open my mouth in a roomful of strangers here, I know that they will all stop listening to what I'm trying to say and start guessing where I'm from.

The last book I read and enjoyed

Ann Patchett's - the third novel of hers I've read. She has a very engaging style and an encouragingly humanistic approach without becoming sentimental.

The three things which I am most thankful for

  1. Coffee and red wine
  2. Civilization and its trappings - art, architecture, cities - but I like the absence of these too.
  3. An active imagination

The one thing I wish MORE people would notice about me

Well, I wish they'd all be struck by my charms and fall adoring at my feet, of course. On reflection, though, it would be inconvenient. You'd always be tripping over their prostrate forms, and the weeping would get tedious.

Friends Describe me as

Creative, Good listener, Kind, Thoughtful

A little more about me

Now and then I read match profiles that tell me the person is looking for their lifelong partner, and that no-one else should waste their time. It seems a bit over-optimistic to me. I'm happy to meet new people and just see what happens. I'm likely to get on best, though, with someone else who feels like the whole eHarmony process, from personality profile to guided communication, is set up for people living in a different mental and emotional universe from their own. Or is it just me?
