More about me

The one thing I am passionate about...

I'm grateful to be in a line of work that allows me to share my time and heart with youth. My favorite things are the outdoors, the arts, books, learning, helping others, and refining things. My hope is that, when my life is over, people can say of me that I sincerely followed Jesus and that they knew his love a little better because they knew me (as long as my obituary is properly punctuated :).

I typically spend my leisure time

If the weather's nice, I spend a LOT of time outside, usually walking or biking. Any day spent with a friend is a good one (and I would acknowledge a good book as a friend). I like doing artsy projects, singing, writing, hanging out, having deep conversations, having ridiculous conversations, laughing, a good game of volleyball, and organizing things. And napping. That seems essential.

The most influential person in my life has been

He has to have a genuine relationship with Christ; that affects everything else. Do you love people--and show them? Do you enjoy learning and thinking? Do you want to laugh a lot? Bonus points! These are things I'd love to share.

The last book I read and enjoyed

One of my favorite recent reads has been unChristian by David Kinnaman, which was pretty much an articulation of things I've been mulling over for years and haven't quite formulated into words. This book thoughtfully and kindly takes the American church to task for applying pat answers like bandaids over the scratches and scars that our generation has. I'm in the middle of Marilynne Robinson's Gilead right now.I read a little bit of anything and everything. If it's original, well-written, truthful, and thoughtful, I'll probably like it.

The three things which I am most thankful for

  1. Redemption, and understanding a little more every day about what that means
  2. Friendships
  3. Deep conversations

The one thing I wish MORE people would notice about me

Hmm. I'm good at reading people, bad at small talk, more of an individualist than either a leader or follower...and I have really thick skin (but a really soft heart). I guess that's four things. Well, I'm not good at math, either. :)
