The one thing I am passionate about...
I am most passionate about all things mechanical, renewable energy, and self-sufficiency. A true inventor at heart, I love to create things, successfully solve problems, find ways to save energy, and not abuse the environment. ('Use' is fine...) I have mostly conservative values, but am also conservational as well. I tend to strive for perfection with what I build, and am constantly learning and trying to improve upon my creations. A couple favorite sayings: "Always make new mistakes" and "true simplicity is the result of much profound thought."
I typically spend my leisure time
I enjoy many technical hobbies like building PCs, website development, amateur radio and radio-controlled aircraft, but I also enjoy reading, cooking, photography, making great PC-edited home movies, watching movies and news, and most of all, traveling in the specialized marine-grade campers I build in my business. (It's always good to be passionate about, and enjoy your work!) Then there's hiking, empty dirt-road motorcycle rides, and I treasure quiet time at home with loved ones and my dog Charlis. A roaring fire and a good DVD are a favorite on a cold night! I love to sauna once a week too.
The most influential person in my life has been
Honesty would have to be number one. Without a doubt, the other standard answers would also apply: fideliity, passion, resposibility, etc... But honesty comes first. Without honesty, there is no foundation in a relationship.
The first thing people notice about me
People seem to notice that I'm intelligent and inventive. I don't know how, but they do. (Probably because I'm either driving something I built, or talking passionately about my next project.) I tend to be shy at first, but once I get going I get comfortable. I love to discuss just about anything, and like to learn as much as I can when I get interested in a subject.
The last book I read and enjoyed
I just finished PJ O'Rourke's "CEO of the Sofa" It was given to me, and I found it really funny. Now I'm reading "The Long Emergency" about the coming (potential) oil production peak and possible energy crisis.
The three things which I am most thankful for
- Parents and the moral/value based upbringing they provided
- Attitude of personal responsibility, not entitlement or "victimhood"
- Mechanical intuition and patience to achieve long-term goals
The one thing I wish MORE people would notice about me
I wish people would see that I'm compassionate, gentle, and loving, but I guess they don't expect that from a guy who likes to weld and create big mechanical stuff. I'm not "all about work" - rather, I really enjoy my work. I love to relax and enjoy life too!

A little more about me
While I may sound somewhat businesslike here, I do know how to enjoy life. I am never bored, or boring, and am always thinking of something new to learn about. I am looking for a partner with similar interests, but also a strong woman who can bring her own passions to the relationship. My current dream is to spend three or four months per year sailing blue water on a catamaran. Hopefully, that's less than ten years away!
