The one thing I am passionate about...
I care deeply about communication and truly understanding other people. I believe that through compassion people who are very different can find common ground. I care deeply about learning and am always trying to find out more about the people around me and the world we live in. I care about making the world a better place but I believe that you can't make things better in the world without improving yourself first. On the less serious side...I love movies! I've seen nearly all of the IMDB's top 250 movies. I enjoy just being entertained and also figuring out how the technical elements are used to make a piece of art.
I typically spend my leisure time
I'm often watching movies, either at home or in theaters. I also enjoy chess and I'm actually good. I won a tournament ahead of about 200 people a few years back. I play about once a month now though. I'm a nature boy and like to go sit in the park, hike, camp, or simply hang out at the beach. I also enjoy sports, either watching or playing. I don't watch much TV, but I have started following the Red Sox since I've been here.
The most influential person in my life has been
Someone who can appreciate the humor in any situation, if I have to pick just one. You never know what twists life will present and it's important to be able to roll with it and have fun.
The first thing people notice about me
I've been told many times that my voice is very deep, distinctive, and appealing. Friends have even encouraged me to do voice-over work. I may actually do it at some point.
The last book I read and enjoyed
Red Star Over China by Edgar Snow. A fascinating tale of the birth of Chinese Communism. More of an adventure story than a history book. I don't know what to say...I'm fascinated by China. In fact, I plan on teaching English there in the coming year. I can go from stuff like this to "lighter" stuff like Tom Robbins books. I read anything good, original, and eye-opening.
The three things which I am most thankful for
- My family and friends
- My job
- The opportunities I've had
The one thing I wish MORE people would notice about me
My fundamentally kind and loving nature. I'm often seen as cerebral and somewhat cold but I'm really a big softie.
Friends Describe me as
Funny, Genuine, Intelligent, Perceptive
A little more about me
I moved here about four months ago from the central coast of California for work. I was told the people here would be rude, but I haven't found that to be true in general. I think people are more direct here though, and not as laid-back. The weather in CA can be boring, but I think the prospect of near constant sunshine tends to cheer people up.
