More about me

The one thing I am passionate about...

I am passionate about books, learning, and education in the US today. I am a passionate writer--too poetic as my dissertation committee put it--but passionate about what I have yet to write. I am passionate about my daughters and thankful for the many things they teach me. I am passionate about my horse--though I am selling my mare to buy a gelding that is much quicker in team sorting events I like to compete in. I live life intensely and I am passionate about not going quietly into that dark night, to paraphase Dylan Thomas. I am passionate about sunsets, prayers, adventure, and history. I am a passionate person.

I typically spend my leisure time

I love to have a handful of time to "piddle" with the horses or my cowgirl friends or in my garden or in my home or in my work--when no one is watching the clock. I like a wealth of time.I love riding my horse, especially long trail rides when you turn home as the sun eventually is covered by horizon. I love it when she and I are in cahoots and gallop through the sugar cane fields as one.Enjoying old friends who like me just the way I am and with who I share many years and many code words for hilarious memories we share. When a possiblity, quality time with someone who "gets" me and with whom I can share many private jokes.

The most influential person in my life has been

Someone to laugh about this wonderful life with.

The first thing people notice about me

My great warmth; some say there is a spiritual dimension to it. I don't know but I am drawn to certain people.

The last book I read and enjoyed

Object Lessons by Eavon Boland, an Irish poet. She explores her place as an Irish poet and as a woman in a country that emblemizes women in poetry as nation. She finds it difficult to write about her suburban life as a mother and homemaker and realizes it is because these things seem common as does women's worlds.

The three things which I am most thankful for

  1. The energy and resolve to finish my dissertation while being a single mother to two daughters.
  2. Traveling by plane, bicycle, foot, or horse all over the Western world.
  3. The great love my two daughters and I share as well as the laughs.

The one thing I wish MORE people would notice about me

I wish people would notice that I do not care for chit-chat. I love authentic and genuine conversations, though.

A little more about me

I am a smart woman but sometimes I lack common sense, which can lead to lots of laughs but irritates me, too. I can be lost in thought and miss what is going on right under my nose. I am mindful of living in the present moment.
