More about me

The one thing I am passionate about...

Helping my kids be the best, strongest, happiest people they can be.Being a good friend and sibling, but remaining independent and strong and true to myself.

I typically spend my leisure time

READING! It's always my first choice. I like fiction, generally, but only if it's well-written. No gory stuff, no lurid romances, but pretty much anything else. I like cooking for special occasions, though day-to-day gets old. I like to garden some, somewhat sporadically really, mainly flowers, though I usually have a few tomatoes in summer. I like to travel a great deal, just about anywhere. I usually go to visit relatives somewhere, but love new places too. I would love to go to Ireland, Greece, New Zealand, back to Hawaii, England, Australia and Alaska, and so many other interesting places.

The most influential person in my life has been

Generosity. Of spirit, affection, kindness, time, interest, humor, intimacy, and love...and maybe chocolate and the occasional concert ticket.

The first thing people notice about me

I am outgoing and enormously friendly, and I can carry on a conversation about almost anything, a blessing and a curse, I'm afraid. I like to think people also sense my interest in them and their lives.

The last book I read and enjoyed

Right now, my daughter and I are going through the Narnia series. Lovely work by an amazing man. My favorite author is Barbara Kingsolver, because she not only writes well, but she researches well and is an intelligent woman talking about sometimes everyday things in a remarkable way. I love authors who see the small details and work them into their work in subtle ways, and who make me feel strongly, and think hard, but still entertain. I do read all the time. Nothing for me to read a couple books a week, more if I'm on vacation.

The three things which I am most thankful for

  1. My children
  2. My extended family
  3. The Arts

The one thing I wish MORE people would notice about me

I can be hesitant in getting to know someone on a more than surface level. I tend to hide myself at times, though I don't intend to or want to, but it's a reflex probably born of being in a large family, and needing to keep my privacy in some way. So you might have to dig, but I'm in there.

Friends Describe me as

Articulate, Easy-Going, Optimistic, Thoughtful

A little more about me

I'm a really good person. I'm very physically affectionate and sensual. I am not particularly tidy, but not a slob, and if the bathroom and kitchen are clean, life is good. I don't get upset about too much, but I tend to react more sharply than I like sometimes, and then it's over and I apologize, all within about 3 minutes. I cannot stay mad. I am NOT a morning person! I have in the past hated to look a fool, which has kept me from doing many things. I still have that panic-stricken moment, but I'm learning to suppress it some and not worry so much about what others think. I don't ski. That's enough.
