More about me

The one thing I am passionate about...

My kids and grandkids, and my faith. I also like a good "passionate" discussion about politics, but I realize it's rare that others do. I tremendously enjoy time on my motorcycle and hiking in my beautiful canyons/mountains. I'm passionate about reading, learning, growing...OK and not always brain-stretching, sometimes just escaping into fantasy or sci-fi.

I typically spend my leisure time

I like to hike/walk listening to audiobooks, and I like to read, ride my motorcycle, and treasure hunt at second-hand stores. And of course spending time with my kids and grandkids when I'm afforded that rare opportunity.

The most influential person in my life has been

Truth, Beauty, and Goodness -- inside and out. (See John Eldredge's book Captivating). And I'll admit I know I judge beauty differently than Hollywood. I think I'll need an intelligent woman, and one who'll share my devotion to faith.

The first thing people notice about me

"He seems to be a nice guy, kinda funny, too. Likes to wise-crack, but usually considerate."

The last book I read and enjoyed

Only one? I've always got a dozen going at a time. Brandon Sanderson's Mistborn Series. I like youth lit, including series: Harry Potter, FableHaven, The Navigator. All CS Lewis, all John Eldredge, Jim Ferrell and Arbinger stuff: Peacegiver, The Holy Secret and Anatomy of Peace, and C. Terry Warner's tome Bonds that Make Us Free. I'm always doing an audio book while walking/hiking -- fiction and nonfiction -- whatever I find on sale at thrift stores.

The three things which I am most thankful for

  1. The Atonement and Plan of Happiness
  2. Family
  3. Beauties of nature

The one thing I wish MORE people would notice about me

Still waters run deep, but babbling brooks are fun, too. I wish they (and all of us) could read "hearts." I DO think that eyes are the windows to the soul, and you can tell a lot about people by first impressions (or thin slices -- see also Blink! by Gladwell). Sorry, can't do just "one thing." People might notice THAT, too. How about the fact that I have studied and taught my whole life how to have wonderful families and relationships, and then painfully, ironically, blew it!
