The one thing I am passionate about...
My family life- especially spending time with my son and his friends (often doing messy science experiments...), and also with my mom and brothers. Having fun, outside whenever possible, especially in the fall! Doing the best I can as a mom, and also at work.... and trying not to let them interefere with each other. Cooking. Learning about nature and the world around us, especially by being out in it. Swimming in the ocean. Being there for my friends. Reading. Writing, when I have time. Keeping in touch with the important people in my life. Helping my son grow into a confident, capable young man.
I typically spend my leisure time
Being outside; walking, hiking, canoeing, reading under a tree. I'd like to try cross-country skiing and snowshoeing this winter. I've started to learn down-hill, but I don't think it's ever going to be easy for me.Reading: Almost anything goes. I'm reading the Eragon series now, but love Steinbeck and Thoreau, and Mary Oliver and Billy Collins are my two favorite poets. I liked all of Hannibal the Cannibal books, and also the Narnia series, and Pillars of the Earth (and other 'historical' fiction).I also like cooking and eating. And teaching elementary school kids (I've coached robotics teams, taught natural science....).
The most influential person in my life has been
The first thing people notice about me
People tend to consider me to be really friendly; I smile a lot (unless I am nervous).
The last book I read and enjoyed
The Ginger Tree. It was about a young Scottish woman who moves to China in 1903 to marry her fiancee, who is an English Attache in Shanghai. Miscellaneous complications ensue, including kids and affairs and divorces, two World Wars and a major earthquake. I enjoyed it because it was written as letters and journal entries, and thus was very personal and descriptive, and I enjoyed learning more about the cultures in Japan and China during these periods, from the perspective of someone who lived most of her life there, despite having been born in Great Britain.
The three things which I am most thankful for
- My son, and also the rest of my family.
- My closest friends; we've helped each other through many tough times!
- That I live in a wonderful part of the world, have a great job, and have all that we need on a daily basis.
The one thing I wish MORE people would notice about me
I'm not sure.
Friends Describe me as
Genuine, Hard Working, Kind, Spontaneous
A little more about me
I'm a little nervous about trying this eHarmony thing, especially because I live in a fairly small world up here in NH! I hope I can meet someone with similar interests, although it is more important to me that our values match up. I'm both a night-owl and a morning-person, though sometimes I need to catch up on sleep. So, I like afternoon naps, however rare they are!
