The one thing I am passionate about...
I'm passionate about good books and also great music, both of which let you find works and artists you love and trace their influences to put things in a larger context. I don't go a day without reading, and my iPod has more miles on it than my car.
I typically spend my leisure time
I love to read, mostly novels but also the occasional book of nonfiction on a topic I'm interested in. I'm also an avid music collector and a huge fan of a punk, Britpop, reggae, soul, some hip hop, the occasional sampling of sixties-era country, a lot of current indie rock, and much more. I buy, I listen, I occasionally attend shows when I have the money and wherewithal. Since I work in music, I keep apprised of what's what. I also like to write, both fiction and personal essays. I maintain a blog where I occasionally post same, as well as political diatribes and ridiculous things I've seen while web surfing.
The most influential person in my life has been
One quality? Intelligence.
The first thing people notice about me
That I'm unbelievably quiet until you get to know me, then I'm much more entertaining.
The last book I read and enjoyed
Nixonland, by Rick Perlstein, which is a cultural history of the United States as seen through the rise and fall of Richard Nixon. Since I missed out on first-hand experience of the time period when it happened, it was a fascinating view of the turbulence of the times; I can definitely see how the current political fissures came into being.
The three things which I am most thankful for
- Being in a stable job/profession at the moment
- Living in my own house
- Being close to my family
The one thing I wish MORE people would notice about me
That I'm not actually stuck up or deathly serious.
Friends Describe me as
