The one thing I am passionate about...
I find myself routinely gravitating towards things that require abstract thought to be enjoyed on anything more than a superficial level. I find that I am passionate about pursuits that require one to challenge themselves and their views, be it on politics, culture, or the world around them. My own ideas are not easily changed, but I love to hear alternate and interesting perspectives.
I typically spend my leisure time
Doing whatever I want. When my time is completely my own, I usually just do whatever i am in the mood for at the time. I might go to a coffee house and read a book. I might go grab a paper and find something interesting going on in the city. I might just make things happen. Its hard to say. My leisure time is spent doing exactly what I want to do right then. I am all for making plans as well, but sometimes it is fun just to see what happens (and something usually does!).
The most influential person in my life has been
A sense of adventure and an open mind. I love new experiences and being exposed to things that I never knew about. If there is one thing that would really bog down a relationship for me, it would be an absence of curiosity or willingness to try new things. I am a young man in a new city, and I dont want to miss out on something great!
The first thing people notice about me
Probably that I am a big nerd. Not a dungeons and dragons/ going to star wars convention kind of nerd. I am the kind of nerd who would rather have a long intellectual conversation about whatever rather than discuss celebrity gossip or sports (although, I am a BIG sports fan). Honestly, I would rather go to the dentist than talk about the asinine details of some strangers life. I would much rather discuss what is going on with my own friends!
The last book I read and enjoyed
American Prometheus. It is about the American scientist who oversaw the Manhattan Project and development of the atomic bomb, and how his early ties with communism affected his career during McCarthyism. It is also about how a closed minded society (America) rejected one of its greatest intellectuals because of blind prejudice. Truly tragic.
The three things which I am most thankful for
- Opportunities that I have had in my life
- The love and respect of my friends and family
- The ability to do something I enjoy every day
The one thing I wish MORE people would notice about me
For some reason people think that because I am from the south, I must be closed minded. I am the son of a college professor and a hippie (for lack of a better term), and have always been taught to keep my mind open. If you only stick to what you know, the world becomes a boring (and static) place. People are often surprised by many of my interests and associations. If they did not assume I was closed minded, they might not be that surprised.
Friends Describe me as
Good listener, Intelligent, Respectful, Sweet
A little more about me
I am new to the whole online dating thing. As much as I am enjoying the post-college social scene, it is not nearly as easy to meet new people as it once was. I just wanted to see what this was all about!
