The one thing I am passionate about...
I am amazed by and blessed by the challenge that it is to live for Jesus in this world. It seems like so many things can get in the way of that, but I am grateful to have many people in my life that inspire and help me to know how to stick close to God through life's ups and downs. So, this is my number one passion I would say. Part of that appreciating life and what God has allowed for us all to experience for me includes a love for art, sports, poetry, the library, deep friendships, the beach, exercising/eating healthy, great food, and lots of other stuff. Africa and anything related to Africa is a deep passion, including missions there
I typically spend my leisure time
During my free time, I love to work out, hang out with friends, and visit museums among other things. Perhaps most often, I spend free time with close friends and visiting former students at schools I used to work at.
The most influential person in my life has been
Devoted, sincere love for God and other people, combined with humility and genuineness.
The first thing people notice about me
The kindness that I try to show to others.
The last book I read and enjoyed
"The Christian Atheist". It talks about how Christians often (me included) have areas of hypocrisy in their lives that hinder them and God's work in their lives. For example, it talks about how people believe in God but... they doubt his power and goodness, put their own interests and happiness above all else, are self-centered rather than God-centered, etc. It was very convicting, and spoke to me about a lot of things that I think God is working in me to change.
The three things which I am most thankful for
- I am thankful for God's constant presence, love, and work in my life, as well as his love for all people.
- I am thankful for meaningful relationships in my life with family and close friends.
- I am thankful for the opportunity to show God's love to children/families as a teacher, and in everyday life.
The one thing I wish MORE people would notice about me
Very difficult and interesting question. .. I tend to laugh a lot and sometimes others don't understand why. This gets me into trouble because people sometimes assume that my laughter means ridicule. I never laugh to ridicule or make others feel bad. Sometimes, for example, hard things happen in my life and I laugh in disbelief. Not sure if that makes sense, but that's an attempt at answering.
Friends Describe me as
Affectionate, Funny, Genuine, Kind
A little more about me
I'm unorthodox. Someone described me as that, and I think it is a good description of me. Also, I have kind of an open approach to the future. Somebody that would be right for me relationship-wise would be somebody dedicated to Jesus, desiring to have a family, but open to how God may lead them (and us) in the future. A passion of my life is missions, though I its been a while since I've been on one, since teaching in the city is my "mission" now. Inner city ministry and living incarnationally (serving the community in which I live) are other big interests and passions for me. Finally, I am definitely a work in progress.
