The one thing I am passionate about...
Learning...I'm a very curious person with widely varied interests. My current topics of obsessive investigation are World War II, my family's German heritage, the roles of women in both the antebellum South and settlement of the Western U.S. And how to replace nasty, plastic base and door mouldings with wooden.
I typically spend my leisure time
Well, anything that faciliates learning (e.g. reading, investigating, practicing), of course. Also, home improvement projects and playing with my Basset Hounds.
The most influential person in my life has been
Honesty/responsibility. If you like to play games with your friends, significant other, colleagues or the IRS, I'm not interested.
The first thing people notice about me
If I'm at home, probably that green is my favorite color. If at work, that I like a comfy, functional environment. On the street, that I tend to not make eye contact...pretty shy.
The last book I read and enjoyed
Einstein: His Life and Universe, by Isaacson. Not much physics (thankfully - biology is my thing), but a fantastic examination of the way Einstein thought about things and the reasons behind his approaches. Quirky, but not as nuts as he's normally portrayed as being.
The three things which I am most thankful for
- My family, in its non-standard configuration
The one thing I wish MORE people would notice about me
Honestly, people typically can't get past the chubby shape, which I consider their loss. If they CAN, that's enough for me.
Friends Describe me as
Creative, Genuine, Intelligent, Thoughtful
A little more about me
Big sports fan! Love everything except boxing (bleah), but especially the Chicago Cubs, White Sox, Bulls, Bears and Blackhawks.
