More about me

The one thing I am passionate about...

I love music -- and many of my closest relationships are based on music. Lee Morgan, Mary Blige, Ramones, Shins, good radio stations, India Arie, Elvis Costello, Replacements, Pixies, Monk --pretty wide ranging, and I like to hear new things too. Passionate -- I dont know, but it's a big part of my life, and I love the feeling of music, the way it can catch a mood or a dream, the expressiveness releases the feelings in me.

I typically spend my leisure time

Again, I'm almost always listening to something. I like walking, city or countryside. I enjoy being out and active. I "do art" a lot -- photo, video, drawing, music -- and enjoy that, and I like the creativity of talk, the way it can make you think of things you wouldn't otherwise, and the many things you learn from others in talk.

The most influential person in my life has been

It's never that one thing, it's the complex. Honesty, character, creativity, depth, an excellent sense of humor.

The first thing people notice about me

Honesty, character, creativity, depth -- no, just joking. I haven't any idea. A readiness to engage, maybe.

The last book I read and enjoyed

I read a lot, and I read widely, and I read old. Middlesex by Jeffrey Eugenides; The Known World by Edward Jones, Adam Gopnik's two books of essays. These people can write so well -- and they go to the heart of the human condition, the ultimate source of all art. I liked the people in the book and imagining the character behind the book.

The three things which I am most thankful for

  1. Being able to travel and experience Asia
  2. Having great, close, solid long term friends
  3. This great world full of great nature and the continual surpise of people

The one thing I wish MORE people would notice about me

I'm an open person. They don't know I speak Chinese -- but that can wait.

Friends Describe me as

Articulate, Creative, Funny, Intelligent

A little more about me

I am an academic, but I walk in many worlds. I enjoy the company of intelligent, capable women.
