More about me

The one thing I am passionate about...

I am passionate about music (I'm a semi-pro jazz singer, which is not my career, but a hobby). I know it sounds ridiculous. Everyone is passionate about music, right? But I find that when I am singing, my whole self is engaged-- my body is physically involved, my mind is analyzing the harmony and melody and figuring out what to do next, I connect emotionally to the music, and socially with the musicians and audience... it's such a wonderful experience.

I typically spend my leisure time

I enjoy reading and learning new things. Anything that stimulates my brain is welcome in my leisure time. I enjoy long talks with friends, seeing where they are in their lives. And I enjoy walking through city streets (weird, huh?).

The most influential person in my life has been

I'm looking for someone who knows how to care about and respect the people who are important to him. I'd love to meet someone who is selfless, but still a leader.

The first thing people notice about me

I don't talk very much when I first meet someone... so I guess I give the impression that I'm shy. Which I'm not. I just like to hang back and observe before I come out of my shell.

The last book I read and enjoyed

Oh this will sound morbid. Let me give a disclaimer first: I work in a psych lab that researches motivation and emotion changes with aging, so this was relevant to work. "On Death and Dying" by Elizabeth Kubler-Ross. It was intriguing to read about how each person experiences their own mortality, and faces a known ending. The book I read before that was "Flow" by Mihaly Csikszentmihalyi, so that's a little more upbeat. And I'm in the middle of "The House that George Built" about the composers of the Great American Songbook.

The three things which I am most thankful for

  1. my family
  2. the fact that my future is full of possibilities
  3. the ability to express myself creatively

The one thing I wish MORE people would notice about me

I wish people would notice that I'm thoughtful and intelligent, though a little silly.

Friends Describe me as

Dependable, Generous, Intelligent, Warm

A little more about me

I wear my heart on my sleeve.
