The one thing I am passionate about...
I am passionate about many things: Following God, my church, my community, learning how to serve my students, and issues surrounding social justice. I work really hard to fight for the things that I care about, things that I feel are important. I write. I travel a lot, I love to learn new languages, new cultures and to explore God's amazing creation.
I typically spend my leisure time
Being from Michigan this changes with the seasons. In the summer I kayak about 20 hours a week! I love to spend as much time at the beach as possible. In good weather I enjoy long walks. About every 3 or 4 years I take a big trip abroad (have already visited 20 countries!). In the winter I love to write, read, sew, cook and bake. My friends and I love to go out for Sushi or stay indoors and chat in front of the fire. Basically, my interests vary with the seasons.
The most influential person in my life has been
Someone who is accepting of others and their shortcomings, who wants me to be the best I can be by bringing me closer to God. Someone who has a sense of adventure, loves to laugh and tries to make me laugh. Someone who doesn't mind a girl who likes to keep it simple.
The first thing people notice about me
I'm terrible at first impressions, so I try to disarm people and make them laugh. If I can't make someone laugh within a few minutes then it's a lost cause. So, I guess people notice that I'm funny. I have a dry sense of humor and a quick wit which sometimes gets me into trouble. I try to stay out of trouble!
The last book I read and enjoyed
Animal, Vegetable, Miracle by Barbara Kingsolver. Barbara and her family became "localvores" for a year and documented their journey. The book is filled with facts about food consumption, the energy it takes to transport food as well as their funny stories about their experiment. I loved it for it's simplicity and the way it changed the way I shop for groceries.
The three things which I am most thankful for
- My faith in God
- My family and friends
- The creative gifts that God has given me.
The one thing I wish MORE people would notice about me
There is more to me than I can describe here for you.
Friends Describe me as
Articulate, Funny, Good listener, Intelligent
A little more about me
I really, really love to laugh and to make others laugh. I believe it's one of my greatest strengths as a High School teacher. I'm very quick witted and it keeps my students on their toes. I enjoy making my friends laugh as well. In the last few years I've also become more aware of environmental concerns and am learning how to tread lightly on this Earth that God entrusted to us. I'm not materialistic and am constantly purging my belongings. If you honestly want to meet someone who is smart and dynamic, let me know. I'm open to long distance communication.
