More about me

The one thing I am passionate about...

I love figuring out how things work; I enjoy breaking complicated ideas down into their fundamental pieces and then reconstructing them in a simpler way. The excitement of solving a new problem, and learning from the solution more about how the world works, is what has led me to become a scientist. In the future I hope to have the opportunity to share this enthusiasm through teaching.A second passion of mine is being in nature and pursuing activities that involve getting somewhere under your own power (hiking, canoeing, etc.). It is important to me that we take care of the environment that we have been given, both globally and locally.

I typically spend my leisure time

I enjoy live music events including performances at the Kennedy Center and concerts at other venues in the city. To get outside and clear my head I run regularly, including periodic road races. Running provides a welcome balance to my life and is a great way to keep a healthy perspective. Much of my remaining free time is spent learning German, which sounds like work, but is fun.

The most influential person in my life has been

Maturity and intelligence are the two most important characteristics that I look for. I appreciate a woman who is generally reserved, but has her own opinions and is eager to share the perspectives and interests that she brings to a relationship.

The last book I read and enjoyed

Most of my reading is work-related at the moment, but a book that I read many years ago and really appreciated was Haroun and the Sea of Stories by Salman Rushdie.

The three things which I am most thankful for

  1. I feel fortunate to have been born with a strong desire to explore the world around me.
  2. Close friends who have diverse backgrounds.
  3. The opportunities I was given while growing up.

Friends Describe me as
